Deputy David March

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department

Sheriff Lee Baca reported the following to Channel 7 News: “It’s sad for me to announce today (Monday, April 29, 2002) that a member of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Deputy David March, was shot and killed at approximately 10:39 this morning,” Baca told reporters at Huntington Memorial Hospital.

“Deputy March was patrolling out of the Temple City Sheriff’s Station, working in the Monrovia (unincorporated) county area when he pulled over a suspect vehicle, (with) three occupants inside.

“Deputy March attempted to identify who the driver was. The driver and Deputy March engaged in a struggle. The driver pulled a weapon and shot Deputy March point blank.”

Paramedics sent to the 200 block of Live Oak Avenue about 10:45 a.m. administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation to Deputy March and took him to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.
