Achieve

Certification

We believe that Chaplaincy is a journey. As students go through their training, they acquire new knowledge and skills. Then it is time to go into the field and use those skills. After they gain proficiency in those skills it is time to add additional skills to their tool bag.

Our certification process is designed to encourage student chaplains and field seasoned chaplains to not only continue to expand their skills and expertise but to gain the recognition that goes with that achievement.

The Curriculum is designed to give the beginning student the core skills to be able to minister to people in crisis. Completing the core classes the student will be awarded a Chaplain 1 certificate. In addition to the Chaplain 1 Certificate, the student is now eligible to apply for Ordination, which will grant additional capabilities. If the student desires to be ordained by Living Shield Ministries, there is an application the student can download and complete.

A new Chaplain may elect to serve in a particular discipline, such as Fire, Police, Hospital, or Disaster Chaplain. A certification program is available for a number of disciplines to enable the student to understand the unique challenges that that discipline presents. Students can achieve a certificate in one discipline or as many disciplines as they feel inclined.

The Chaplain 1 certificate holders can then deploy into an area of need with a level of comfort and understanding of the culture, climate, and terminology of that area.

Experience counts and it is recommended that the student spend at least 3 months utilizing the skills and knowledge before moving on to the next Chaplain certification. The Chaplain 2 program builds upon both the prior training and the experience gained in the field.

Finally, students will want to consider Chaplain 3 certification by arming themselves with advanced subject matter that will enable them to function at a higher level of understanding and more able to empathize with a wide variety of situations.

Living Shield Ministries wants to support the student through their journey of gaining skills, exercising them in real-world situations, and then growing with each deployment or crisis.

Can I become ordained as a Chaplain?

Most Chaplain students seek to be ordained as a Chaplain. A person who is ordained has gained official status as a Chaplain through a sanctioned process through education and commitment to Chaplain and ministerial functions, according to the ordaining organization.

The word Ordained comes from the root meaning “order,” and when someone is ordained, they have been brought into that religious order or group of church leaders. Ordained is also the past tense of the verb ordain, meaning to invest someone with such authority. Ordained Chaplains have a number of responsibilities and are expected to reflect and model the faith which they profess and teach.
