Chaplain Lynne writes:

As a Chaplain, times like this week in September 2025, are exceedingly difficult. People of all walks are hurting. Grief leads to strong emotions. Emotions lead to stronger words. Those serving on the frontlines are facing difficulty, and the results of emotions in action.

As a Chaplain, we must remember our Purpose.

A Chaplain’s Purpose is service.

Service built and grounded in compassion for those who are in crisis, who have lost hope. Service provided individually, with presence around the individual in crisis need.

An ordained Chaplain’s service is not the same ministry as that of an ordained Pastor. Pastors are called to grow and tend to a church flock. Ordination means technically appointed or ordered. Chaplains are not ordained to building a faith, per se’, but really are ordained to a Purpose.

A Purpose to serve all… of all faiths or of no faith, out in the community.

A Purpose to serve everyone who is in crisis and hurting. A Purpose to provide a ministry of presence, with compassion to support the individual in their pain. A Purpose to be the bridge between the secular and the sacred. A Purpose that uses Faith to be the fire within, to motivate to have compassion and empathy for others who are wounded. A Purpose using deeply grounded faith to reflect thru a Chaplain’s compassionate actions… our beliefs.

May you remember your Purpose as a Chaplain.

May you hear the wounded. May you be the bridge. May your faith fuel you and sustain you.

Remember your fellow Chaplains and reach out to them and pray for them.

We are praying for you. (please click here to go to comments to add prayer request)

What is Grief?

Grief… is around the “loss of something”, felt by the individual as a significant impact to their world. Grief can include the loss of a person, relationship and even a world view. It is an individual state, based on the individual’s perception of their loss. It can stir up emotions of pain, anger, frustration, depression, anxiety and fear. Ministry to a person grieving is around their crisis, in a presence of quiet listening and compassionate support.
